Our teachers have been carefully selected from some of the best conservatoires and univerisities in the UK and from around the world. Many of our teachers have been awarded for their expertise in performance and composition, and all have backgrounds in teaching with private piano schools, conservatoires and in their own private studios. Each teacher is qualified to a very high standard, has a current CRB/DBS check, and years of experience working with students of all ages.

Our teachers specialise in popular music, jazz and classical, and we are happy to match students with a teacher of their choice based on their field of expertise or because their individual approach suits the ambitions of a particular student. Many of our teachers speak a second and third language other than English and we have both male and female teachers available at all times, if you have a preference. We also have teachers available for lessons in music theory or help with GCSE, A-Level and school entry examinations.

FAQS

How much do you charge for lessons?

Lessons are charged at £33.60 for 30 minutes, £39.60 for 45 minutes, £45.60 for 60 minutes and £60.00 for 90 minutes. Trial Lessons are charged at the standard rate.

Can I work towards a graded exam?

Yes, all our teachers are experienced in working towards Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity Guildhall graded examinations. Importantly, students can also just play for fun if they choose!

How long should my lesson be?

Younger students usually progress best in 30- or 45-minute lessons to begin with. Older and more advanced students  benefit from the longer lesson length of 60 minutes, and often 90 minutes when approaching examination time.

Can I have lessons in my own home?

Yes, all our teachers will travel to your home. Our teachers primarily work in Holloway, Stoke Newington, Highbury, Canonbury, Angel, Barnsbury, De Beauvoir Town, Finsbury and Clerkenwell, and other nearby locations. We may be able to arrange for a teacher to travel to locations outside of this immediate area, so please get in touch.

Do I need to own a piano?

Younger and beginner students will often find that a standard or touch-sensitive (weighted) keyboard will suffice for adequate practice. It is important that students have a regular keyboard or piano in the home to practice on between lessons. If you do not own a piano or touch-sensitive keyboard, we’ll be happy to make an affordable recommendation for you.

Do I need to have regular lessons?

Lessons with Islington Piano Teachers are very flexible and we try out best to fit around your schedule. Regular lessons are the best way to guarantee improvement in piano playing but we understand that life can get in the way! If you need to cancel or postpone a lesson for whatever reason, all we require is 24-hours’ notice.

When can I arrange lessons for?

Our teachers are available through the week, working both weekdays and weekends. Contact us using our form below and we will find you a teacher available at a time that suits you.
